Benaroya Institute, located in Washington state, selected Energy Industries to design and implement lighting efficiency solutions for their parking garage.
Benaroya Institute’s original 100-watt high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting system was a typical installation found in many well-lit parking garages. Energy Industries replaced the HID system with new vapor-tight fluorescent fixtures, high-efficiency ballasts and T8 lamps. While consuming less electricity, the new lighting system provides greater illumination, making the garage brighter and safer.
With substantial utility incentives available in the Pacific Northwest, energy-efficient lighting retrofits have excellent returns on investment. For the Benaroya Institute, the lighting project of $49,800 received a $22,000 cash rebate from Seattle City Light, the city’s electric utility company. With annual cost savings of $9,000, the cost recapture period was 3.1 years, providing the institute with an investment return of 32 percent.
